ARE WE REALLY THAT DIFFERENT?

Ever sometimes thought when you have met people from different cultures and you sometimes see a stark similarity between them despite ethnicities and cultures being completlely out of range? We will be looking at some similarities between Moroccans and British Northerners,  Maldivians and Kenyans and lots more examples to come in this series...

JOURNEY TO THE ROOTS

What is it like to go 'back' to the roots of your childhood, parents or grandparents? How are you seen when you go to the homeland of one or both of your parents? How do you feel and what do you experience when you go back to the place you were born or spent a significant part of your life in, but have been far away from it for a long time? Iman will be off to her birthplace and motherland Maldives next week, and will be sending us some enviously beautiful exotic pictures and a diary update of what it's like to be there, and how it has been changing since she left when she was 9 years old. Nora will be off to another exotic location, Mauritius to visit her father land at the end of the month and will be updating you with some picture stories as well. We look forward to your thoughts and sharing your personal experiences with us - so get in touch!

RELIGION AND IDENTITY

How is our identity shaped by religion or non religion? How does national identity evolve, when religion is institutionalized or if a country chooses to seperate religion from the state?

PROJECTS

PUT ME IN A FRAME

Get a few things that you think presents you. Your spokespersons, shall we say. Take a picture, send it to us and talk about it. Constructing a self with material items. Some would choose certain traits (an accent, hair colour, gesture) to classify the other into a certain box. We are choosing certain items, and boxing them into a frame.

Take a photograph of your chosen items. What does it say about your identity, your self?

Let’s find out.

WHAT AM I TO YOU?

Individuals ask friends and family (sometimes the families are from different ethinicities, religious and cultural backgrounds) how they perceive this person. Their own friend or relative, how are they seen amongst their most intimate circles and compare that to what strangers say.
